- Closed coat construction helps deliver a finer finish for metal working applications
- Resin bond resists deterioration from heat, extending the life of the abrasive
- 3M Precision Shaped Grain (PSG) maintains super-sharp points that cut exceptionally fast with less pressure
- PSG runs cooler, reducing metal discoloration/oxidation and the chance of heat related stress cracks
- Disc life is significantly longer, completing more parts per disc and requiring fewer disc changes
- Grinding aid reduces grinding temperatures for processes involving heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys and titanium
- The discs included in our 3M Cubitron II Roloc fiber disc trial pack 987C offer quality performance with 3M precision shaped grain on a tough fiber backing. This makes for a versatile and general purpose metalworking abrasive for a variety of applications such as grinding, weld removal, finishing and blending on metals like stainless steel and nickel containing alloys. 3M Cubitron II Roloc fiber disc 987C uses precision shaped ceramic grains that continually fracture into sharp points and edges that slice cleanly through metal, rather than gouging or plowing as traditional abrasives do. This creates a very fast cut and lessens heat build-up in the workpiece reducing heat related stress cracks and discoloration. Moreover, because the abrasive itself stays cooler and sharper, it lasts longer than conventional ceramic grain discs decreasing costs and reducing disc changeovers. Designed for use on stainless steel and nickel alloys. We engineer 3M fiber 987C discs by adhering a closed coat of our precision shaped grain to a tough fiber backing using a heat-resistant resin bond. The closed coat construction means the abrasive grains are placed tightly together to provide aggressive finishing action and a fine finish. The stiff, vulcanized fiber backing is extremely durable and withstands wear and tends not to yield or deflect when run. Altogether, fiber discs are rigid and deliver a fast cut for grinding and weld removal and they come in a range of sizes to correspond to large or small welds. Fiber discs also work well for blending and provide a consistent finish over the workpiece which allows them to be used in a variety of applications. Roloc discs lock securely in place with half a twist. Our proprietary 3M Cubitron II products have raised the bar for high performing abrasives. Our engineers started with 3M precision shaped grain and electrostatically orient each triangular structure on the backing to form sharp peaks and maximize cutting potential. These peaks act like individual cutting tools that slice through metal and continuously shelf-sharpen as the points break off, ensuring extended high performance in heavy duty production applications. The grains wear evenly and provide extra long disc life and consistency with less grinding pressure. This allows users to complete more parts per disc with greater comfort.
