COMPANY HISTORY
AND INFORMATION
Turner Supply Company
was founded in 1905 by Mr. Marshall
Turner in Mobile, Alabama. The purpose
of the business was "to carry a stock
of products from the leading manufacturers,
that were required in the operation
of sawmills, railways, machine shops,
and general industry."
In 1909, Mr. Turner's
nephew, Howard M. Schramm, began his
employment at Turner Supply Company
as a stock clerk and worked his way
up to manager of the Machinery Department.
The company prospered, but in 1929,
Mr. Turner died unexpectedly. The
bank that was managing the estate
turned to Mr. Schramm to run the company.
Under his leadership, the company
continued to grow and prosper, adding
and changing lines and departments
as the customer base changed.
In the 1950's, the company
had outgrown its original location
at the corner of St. Louis and Commerce
Streets in Mobile, even after expanding
into several nearby buildings. A modern
74,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse
building was constructed on Royal
Street, just two blocks from the original
location. The move to this facility
was made in the spring of 1955 in
conjunction with the company's 50th
anniversary. The corporate offices
and main warehouse are still located
at this facility.
Mr. Schramm suffered a
stroke in 1975 and his son, Howard
M. Schramm, Jr. was named President
of Turner Supply Company. Mr. Schramm,
Sr. continued to serve as Chairman
until his death in 1983.
In the 1970's Turner Supply
Company began expanding geographically
with branches being added as follows:

| 1977

In 1991, Turner Supply
Company acquired a respected industrial
distributor in north Alabama, The
Storeroom, adding locations in Birmingham,
Montgomery, and Madison, Alabama.
The Birmingham office serves as
the hub for these locations, Anniston
and Nashville.
